I am registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and have a private practice operating in Fourways and also in Constantia Kloof. I worked in the UK for a number of years where I developed an interest in working with people suffering from eating disorders and personality disorders.
My approach is to create a space for people to learn new things about themselves, to explore their inner world and to understand the things that hinder their happiness and goals. This is a creative and collaborative process with the aim of creating and maintaining well-being.
Why do people come to therapy?
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes they come just to understand themselves better. Sometimes it is due to difficult and painful circumstances and sometimes it is because they have been diagnosed with a specific psychiatric condition. The reason for coming to see me may be one of the following:
How does therapy work?
There are many theoretical understandings of human behaviours and different therapists prefer different paradigms to understand their clients. I use a combination of insight-orientated therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy and attempt to help my clients to develop self-exploration and self-understanding. I attempt to help clients achieve healthy self-esteem and an ability to make informed choices in their lives. How long
does it take?
Therapy can be short-term (3-6 months), medium term (6-12 months) and sometimes long-term (more than a year). The duration of therapy will depend on the reason one comes to therapy. A longer period of therapy may achieve a deeper and more meaningful process of sustainable change.
